Free Pattern- Men's Size Loom Knit Hat's
Here's a simple loom knitting pattern for an adult-sized men's hat, using a round loom (typically 41 pegs, but you can adjust based on your loom size).
Materials:
Loom (with 41 pegs for adult size, or adjust based on loom size)
Worsted weight yarn (about 100–150 yards)
Loom hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Optional: stitch markers
Abbreviations:
E-wrap (EW): Wrap the yarn around a peg once, then wrap it again for a double layer.
Knit stitch (K): Lift the bottom loop over the top loop on each peg.
Purl stitch (P): Bring the working yarn to the front of the peg, then lift the bottom loop over the top.
Flat Knit: Knit around the loom in a single round.
Instructions
1. Cast-On (Begin with a Long Tail Cast-On):
Start by making a slip knot and securing it onto the first peg.
E-wrap the yarn around each peg until all 41 pegs are wrapped.
2. Ribbing (1x1 or 2x2)
For 1x1 Ribbing (recommended for a stretchy, fitted brim):
Begin at peg 1: E-wrap and knit stitch on peg 1, purl on peg 2, E-wrap and knit stitch on peg 3, and so on around the loom, alternating between knit and purl.
Continue for about 2 to 3 inches, or until it fits snugly around your head.
For 2x2 Ribbing (a bit chunkier and more textured):
E-wrap and knit on 2 consecutive pegs, then purl on the next 2 consecutive pegs. Repeat around the loom.
Continue for 2 to 3 inches, or until you have the desired brim height.
3. Knit the Body of the Hat
Once the ribbing is complete, switch to a flat knit (regular knit stitch) around the loom. No more purl stitches, just knit all the way around.
Continue knitting for 5–7 inches or until the hat reaches the top of your head.
4. Decreasing the Crown
Once the body is the right length, start decreasing the crown to shape the top of the hat.
Round 1: Knit 6 pegs, then K2tog (Knit 2 together) on the next 2 pegs. Repeat this pattern around.
Round 2: Knit 5 pegs, then K2tog. Repeat around.
Continue decreasing by knitting one less peg before the decrease in each round, until you are down to 6 pegs.
5. Closing the Top of the Hat
Once you have 6 pegs left, use a needle to thread the yarn through the remaining loops.
Pull tightly to close the top of the hat and secure it by weaving in the end.
6. Finishing
Weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle.
Try the hat on and adjust if needed.
