Free Pattern- Baby Loom Knit Hat

Here’s a simple loom-knit baby hat pattern that works great for beginners. It fits most newborn–6 month babies.

Loom Knit Baby Hat (Basic Pattern)

Supplies

Round loom: 24-peg loom (small)

Yarn: #4 worsted weight (soft baby yarn)

Loom hook

Yarn needle

Scissors

Size

Newborn–6 months

Finished height: about 5–6 inches

Abbreviations

e-wrap = wrap yarn around peg like a cursive “e”

U-knit = hook bottom loop over top loop

Pattern

1. Cast On

Make a slip knot and place it on the anchor peg

E-wrap cast on all 24 pegs

Knit 1 round using U-knit

2. Brim (Ribbed)

Do this for 6–8 rows:

Row 1: Knit 1 peg, purl 1 peg (repeat around)

Row 2: Repeat Row 1

(This makes a stretchy brim. If you prefer simple, just e-wrap knit all pegs.)

3. Body of Hat

E-wrap knit all pegs

Repeat for 12–14 rows

4. Bind Off (Gathered Top)

1. Cut yarn, leaving a 12–15 inch tail

2. Thread yarn needle

3. Sew through each loop on the pegs

4. Lift loops off the loom

5. Pull tight to close the top

6. Secure and weave in ends
